When I left for Australia for a year, many of my colleagues were shocked – what will happen to your business now? It’s absolutely impossible to work on weddings in Europe while being in Australia!
Time has proved this theory wrong – over the year that I spent in Australia I flew to Europe twice and organised three weddings there (one of them being the biggest and most complex in my whole career), design a few private events around Moscow, organise a photoshoot in Moscow and some more in Australia.
Why am I telling you this? So that you are not afraid to follow your dreams. We limit ourselves very often. Everyone has probably heard the expression “The sky is the limit”. But I much rather prefer its other version, which I have on my website: “Don’t tell me the sky is the limit when there are footprints on the moon! (by Brandt Paul)”.
Or, even better, probably, by Tom Hiddleston: “The sky is the limit; your sky, your limit.”
We will always have doubts, anxiety, uncertainty. But if you approach your dream correctly, turn it into a plan and bring it to life gradually, I’m sure it will work out.
My family was never wealthy. My parents didn’t even have money for a train ticket from Russia to Poland to go on a school trip. I didn’t have any connections with the “right people”.
But I always dreamed of freedom. Freedom to travel, freedom to choose your own career path, find your calling and do what you enjoy. And I found my way!
In the late 2014, as I recall, I found each and every one airplane ticket from the past year and counted the days I spent abroad. It turned out to be almost half of the year! Can you imagine that? My dream came true. My long-lasting, challenging and unachievable dream came true!
I made friends all around the world. I have established connections with wonderful vendors from different countries. A representative of one of the biggest flower importers flew in to Venice from Holland especially to meet me: we drank coffee with amazing tiramisu in one of the numerous cafes, talked about business and parted ways – I got back to the venue, and he rushed back to the airport.
I now have a million of such stories. I even catch myself thinking I should start collecting the material for my memoirs – that would be not a book, rather an analogue to La Grande Encyclopédie.
Which is why I call upon you: don’t be afraid of your dreams! Turn them into plans and start bringing them to life! Believe in yourselves, work as you should, be open to everything new and unusual – and your dreams will start coming true!
It would be great to hear your Story. Because everyone has a Story, and each is unique.
To conclude, I’ll give another quote, this time from an adored book of mine – The Chronicles of Narnia:
“Now at last they were beginning Chapter One of the Great Story no one on earth has ever read, which goes on forever; in which every chapter is better than the one before.”
– C.S. Lewis
